Islamabad High Court orders Nawaz Sharif to surrender before court

A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court comprising Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard the review petitions of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Capt. (Retd) Safdar and NAB against the decisions of accountability courts on Avonfield, Flagship and Azizia references. doing. During the hearing, the court ordered former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to surrender before the court and told lawyer Khawaja Harris that he was giving him an opportunity to surrender before the next hearing. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani remarked that Nawaz Sharif should appear before the court in any case if you have any fear of arrest at the airport.

“We will issue an appropriate order on Nawaz Sharif’s request for exemption from attendance. We will issue our written order stating when to surrender while the federal government also presents its position,” the court said. ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its judgment on the date of surrender and adjourned the hearing till September 10.

The Islamabad High Court also barred Maryam Nawaz from coming to the court for the next hearing. Justice Amir Farooq said that with the arrival of Maryam Nawaz, the roads are blocked so there is no need for her to come now.

He said that no one would want to be away from their country at this age, we should think of Pakistan and not our own while they did what they had to do in five years and a half.

Security arrangements;

Strict security arrangements have been made in the Islamabad High Court on the occasion of the hearing. Roads leading to the court have been closed and sealed with barbed wire while 560 police personnel are on duty.

Parties to review requests;

The accountability court had in the Avonfield reference sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and his son-in-law Capt. (Retd) Safdar to jail, imprisonment and fines. The accused appealed to the Islamabad High Court against the sentence, which quashed the sentences in September 2018, after which Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Capt (retd) Safdar were released from jail.

In the Azizia reference, the accountability court had sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 7 years imprisonment, 10 years ban on holding any public office, confiscation of all property in his name and a fine of about Rs. Later, the Islamabad High Court ruled on Nawaz Sharif’s bail application on medical grounds and suspended his sentence for eight weeks, while the NAB has also appealed for an extension of Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Azizia case.
